海外 From overseas

昨日、突然台湾からのお客様5人のご来店がありました。 中国語と英語しか話が通じません。 台湾で和風総本家のテレビ放映を見て私に会いたかったのだそうです。 私はほとんど英語を話せないので、対応に疲れました。ペンで数字や絵を書いてなんとか理解して頂きましたが、時間がかかりました。 英会話のできる外出中の息子を電話口に呼び出して、お客様と会話をしてもらいました。 そしてミニ鋸の在庫はないことをわかってもらいました。 その代わり、日本製であることを確認して、はさみと小刀、包丁を段ボール1杯ほど買っていただきました。 商人は数分で職人の手間の何倍も売り上げます。 でも、いつ売れるかわからない商品の在庫をしなければなりません。 遠方からわざわざ来られたので、私が外出中でなくてよかったです。 今さらながら、日本の産業がどんどん海外へ攻めてゆく理由がわかります。 国内での消費が手一杯になっているのだと思います。

Five Taiwanese customers visited us suddenly yesterday. They spoke only Taiwanese and English. They said they had wanted to meet me after watching Wafu-sohonke on TV in their country. I couldn't manage to treat them since I barely speak English. So I asked my son, who was out at the time and speaks English a little, to talk to them on the phone. He told them that we had no Mini-saws in stock. But in stead, they bought a boxful of scissors, small knives and kichen knives, understanding that they are made in Japan. Traders make many times as much money as craftsmen in minutes. I must keep items in stock although I don't know when I can sell them. It was good that I was at home yesterday, because they paid a visit from the great distance. Now I know why Japanese industry is spreading out overseas aggressively. The domestic consumption has already reached the limit now.
